Control Systems Designer responsible for design, programming and start-up of various control system projects. The clients included the Alabama DOT, The City of Saraland, Alabama and The City of Fairhope, Alabama. I configured, programmed and commissioned a new control system on a Draw Bridge in Bayou LaBatre, Alabama. The system used redundant GE Series 90-30 PLCs, and a Wonderware HMI/SCADA workstation for control and monitoring of the bridge systems.

Contract Engineering Support for Kimberly-Clark’s Mobile, Al. Paper Mill. The contract for this position was held by BE&K Engineering, Jacobs Engineering, and Seacon Engineering. On-site Engineering support for Control Systems in the converting areas of the mill was supported. Capital projects for Kimberly Clark were also supported during this period. Coordination and integration of different vendor’s equipment with the mill’s conveying systems were also required. The Kimberly Clark Mobile Mill has Modicon 984s, Panelmates, ControlLogix, and Panelview-Plus HMIs. Attendance of a 40 hour training class by Rockwell on ControlLogix when it was introduced was also required.

The deliverables included: validation plan, user requirements, functional requirements, system overview, system design, system configuration, source code review, test plan, standards, procedures, test cases/scripts, test protocols, test summary report, security plan, business continuity plan, disaster recovery plan, and validation report. This effort was a small part of the Eli Lilly’s Building 105 turnaround project which included 100 people in the Automation group. Attendance was also required at a 40 hour training class by Rockwell on the new RSView SE.

Drive replacement projects on Continuous Winders using ControlNet, Powerflex Drives and 3-axis motion control. A new converting line with 48 Powerflex VFDs on ControlNet, Ethernet communication to RSView ME HMI/SCADA stations and Vendor equipment was supported. Another project required experience with Kinetix 6000 servo drives, Ultra 3000 with SERCOS.

This is a three week project, programming a series of skid mounted devices that will fill batteries with acid when we're done. There is a SLC-505, Panelview, and much of the I/O is on an AS-i network. It is really a complex little project, but other than the heat it's been fun.
Of all of the places I've worked, I've never felt so comfortable with a new group of people. By nine or ten o'clock the first day I felt like I've always been here. Very nice, eclectic group of people.
